Culinary Workers Union Local 226
Geoconda Argüello-Kline is presently the Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Workers Union, Local 226. She was born in Managua, Nicaragua.
In 1979 she came to the United States and moved to Las Vegas in 1983 where she worked at the Fitzgerald’s Hotel as a Guest Room Attendant. Her desire to obtain better working conditions for employees led her to become involved with the Culinary Union as a Committee Leader. In 1990 she became part of the staff of the Culinary Union.
Since then Geoconda has worked in various capacities as an Organizer with union and non-union casinos. She participated as an Organizer in the Frontier Strike; Lead Organizer in the Rio Campaign; Coordinator of the Housekeeping Study Campaign; and Staff Trainer of Union Organizers and Lead Organizers.
Geoconda holds the following positions: Vice President of the UNITE- HERE International Union, Trustee of the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas, Trustee of the Culinary Pension Fund, Trustee of the Health and Welfare Fund, Trustee of the St. Louis Square, Trustee of the UNITE HERE Health, Chair Women of the Board of the IWCP (Citizenship Project), and Committee Member for the Center for American Progress Advisory Board.
